Here's our first proper look at Bungie's Marathon

Destiny and original Halo developer Bungie has finally shown off some gameplay for its upcoming extraction shooter Marathon.

The surreal and psychedelic shooter sees teams of three going up against another 18 players within a certain map; they need to grab whatever loot they can and get out alive or risk losing everything they are carrying. It's Escape from Tarkov, but catered for a different kind of sweaty player.

"For us, the opportunity of an extraction shooter really comes from two parts," game director Joe Ziegler told GameSpot

"One is that we have a team that's very excited to build it, and we also have this idea of how do we create the next step of Bungie but also harken back to some of the PvP roots that Bungie originally had with Halo and things of that sort?

"We're also doing something quite crazy experimental, if you will. We're trying to build a service that's like a PvPvE game where we can do a lot of the cool storytelling things that Bungie really does, but do it in the context of a game where a lot of the content is driven by players interacting with one another. I think that nexus of things really makes us very excited to create this experience for players."

Marathon is set to launch on September 23rd, reportedly as a "premium" release, according to GameSpot, though this apparently does not translate to it being a full-price product.
