PC revenue up 24 per cent at Activision Blizzard, company has 407m MAUs in total

Activision Blizzard's latest financials show that PC made up 31 per cent of its revenue for the most recent quarter.

According to its financial release, this sector generated $508m for the firm, an increase of 24 per cent year-on-year. This was the biggest area of growth for the company; mobile saw an 8.5 per cent rise to $493m, while console revenue dipped 12.6 per cent.

The latest financials from Activision Blizzard also highlight the company's massive network of engaged users.

The firm reports that it has 407m monthly active users; the bulk of this, of course, comes from the casual and mobile-focused King, which claimed 314m of that figure.

Blizzard is said to have 46m MAUs, which the company says is an increase of 38 per cent year-on-year. This growth has been driven by long term engagement with the company’s Hearthstone and Overwatch titles.

Meanwhile, Activision claimed 47m MAUs, which is slightly down year-on-year. This is likely due to weaker-than-expected sales of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, but the company points out that the previous CoD title - Black Ops III – saw an increase in MAUs due to the launch of the Zombie Chronicles DLC. This is the first time that Activison has supported a Call of Duty title with DLC beyond its first year lifecycle.

Activision also said that pre-orders for both Call of Duty: WWII and Destiny 2 are strong.

Looking to the future, Activision Blizzard predicts the company will see a slight uplift of revenue owning to its ventures into eSports with the Overwatch League, though Spencer Adam Neumann said in the earnings call that this amount will be ‘modest’

"This was another strong quarter for Activision Blizzard. We exceeded our outlook and delivered record revenues for the first half of 2017,” said CEO Bobby Kotick.

"Celebrating players and audiences is the foundation for our success. This quarter we announced the first team owners in the Overwatch League, the first major global, city-based professional eSports league. With hundreds of hours of broadcast content ahead of us, as well as significant sponsorship and media opportunities, the Overwatch League will provide new ways for us to highlight and support the passion of eSports fans and the skill of some of the world's top Overwatch players."
