Absurd Ventures founds new studio with Ascendant staff

Dan Houser's Absurd Ventures has established a brand new developer staffed with workers from Ascendent Studios.

The venture will be called Absurd Marin and is to be headed up by Ascendant CEO and founder Bret Robbins. The studio is going to be working on a story-driven action adventure title set within a new universe from Absurd Ventures. The company notes that this is a separate IP to the already-announced A Better Paradise.

“Bret has put together a highly talented, passionate team,” Houser (pictured) said.

“We are very excited to have them join forces with us as we begin to work together on one of our original new titles.”

Robbins added: “We love the focus on storytelling and world building at Absurd Ventures. We are thrilled to team up and bring our combined expertise to work on an original game set in an incredibly fun new universe.”

Ascendent was founded in 2019 by veterans of Sledgehammer, Telltale and FunPlus. The developer's first title, Immortals of Aveum, hit shelves in EA with EA handling publishing duties. The fantasy shooter failed to sell well, forcing Ascendant to reportedly furlough a large portion of its staff.
