Sony confirms it is interested in acquiring FromSoftware parent Kadokawa

Sony has confirmed that it is interested in buying FromSoftware parent company Kadokawa.

In a statement to Yahoo Japantranslated by VGC – the company said that it had made a statement of intent. This follows reporting that Sony was in talks to acquire Kadokawa, something the FromSoftware parent confirmed shortly after.

“It’s true that we have made an initial statement of intent,” Sony said.

“We would appreciate it if you would allow us to refrain from further comment.”

According to Japanese outlet Bunshunas reported by Eurogamer – staff at Kadokawa are seemingly delighted that Sony might be buying their company. This is due to frustrations workers have had with the media conglomerate, including disappointment at the response to a ransomware attack earlier this year.

"The people around me are thrilled at the prospect of an acquisition by Sony," one veteran member of staff said.

"That's because there's a certain number of employees who are dissatisfied with the Natsuno administration, which didn't even bother to hold a press conference after peoples' personal information was leaked in the cyberattack. They expect that if Sony were to acquire the company, they would get rid of the president first."
