Report: Yet another Resident Evil film reboot in development

Hollywood is having yet another crack at the Resident Evil franchise.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that this time around Zach Cregger is set to direct and write – alongside co-writer Shay Hatten – while Constantin Film is set to handle production.

Cregger is best known for directing 2022's horror romp Barbarian, while Hatten has worked on John Wick 4 and Army of the Dead. HR reports that this will be "a revamp that will take the title to its horror roots and be more faithful to the initial games, which date back to 1996."

There have been two Resident Evil live action film series so far. The first was the Paul W Anderson directed franchise, which saw six entries helmed by Milla Jovovich. Meanwhile, a reboot came out in 2021 – Welcome to Raccoon City – to mixed reviews.
