Horizon actor says she is worried over AI in game development

Ashly Burch, the actor behind the voice and performance of Horizon's Aloy, has said that she is concerned about the use of AI in game development.

In a post on her TikTok, the Horizon and Mythic Quest actor responded to a leaked tech demo made by Guerrilla Games, which featured an artificial intelligence-generated version of Aloy. Burch has said that the studio has reassured her that this isn't something that is actively in development, but this has done little to alleviate her concerns at an industry level.

The tech demo leaked during an ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike specifically over the use of AI within game development and how it will impact voice and performance capture.

"Guerrilla reached out to let me know that... they didn’t use any of my performance for the demo, none of my facial or voice data. Guerrilla owns Aloy as a character," she said.

“I feel worried, and not worried about Guerrilla specifically or Horizon or my performance or my career specifically, even I feel worried about this art form, game performance.

“We are currently on strike. SAG-AFTRA is currently on strike against video games because of AI, because this technology exists, and because we know that game companies want to use it. We are asking for protections.”
