Snail Games blames marketing team for Ark: Aquatica AI trailer

The developer of Ark: Aquatica, Snail Games, has said that its marketing department is to blame for the recently released AI-infused trailer.

That's according to lead game designer Matt Kohl, who told Aftermath that the animation for the video was done via artificial intelligence. He added that he did not "have any knowledge" about why the Snail Games marketing arm decided that this was the right call.

“That [trailer] was done by our marketing department,” Kohl said.

“They took our assets and then ran them through an AI to animate them. That was marketing. Development team did not do that, and there has been no AI use in development of Aquatica.”

The new trailer for Ark: Aquatica, a DLC for Ark: Survival Evolved, dropped during GDC; one comment reads: “This is disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourselves.”

Ark: Survival Evolved developer Studio Wildcard has distanced itself from the project in a post on Twitter
