Activision user research workers form union

Staff in Activision's user research arm have voted to form a union.

The Communication Workers of America says that the bargaining unit was formed after a supermajority of workers voted in its favour. This union is called Activision User Research Union-CWA and it has already been recognised by Microsoft as part of its labour neutrality agreement with the CWA.

“We are excited to join our fellow game makers across the video game industry to show what’s possible when workers can freely build solidarity in the workplace," said Nicolaas VanMeerten, organising committee member and quantitive user researcher.

"Many of us were mobilised to do something about the layoffs in 2023 and 2024, and now we can look out for each other with a union."

The president of CWA Local 9400 Maurice Washington added: “It is critical that workers have a protected voice on the job to ensure they receive their fair share. We are proud to welcome these workers to CWA and are looking forward to meeting Microsoft at the bargaining table to secure a fair union contract."

This news comes in the wake of the formation of United Videogame Workers-CWA.
