The PC games market brought in $37.3 billion during 2024.
That's according to figures from research outfit Newzoo, which reports that the sector's revenue was flat year-on-year. The firm also predicts that by 2027, the PC market will be bringing in $40.4 billion in revenue, an increase of 2.6 per cent on 2024's figures. By comparison, console spending is set to increase by seven per cent over the same period.
Microtransactions were the biggest source of revenue for the PC market for 2024; this business model was responsible for 58 per cent of spending, or $24.4 billion, at an increase of 1.4 per cent year-on-year. Premium purchases comprised $10.7 billion, representing 28 per cent of the market, though this dropped 2.6 per cent year-in-year. Finally, DLC rose up 0.8 per cent to represent 14 per cent of the sector and bringing in $5.3 billion.
The amount of time people spent playing PC games dropped during 2024 by one per cent; the previous year, there was a 12 per cent rise so the sector would have had a hard time growing that much again.
