PCs are exempt from upcoming wave of Trump tariffs

PCs are going to be exempt from the upcoming wave of tariffs introduced by the Trump administration.

In a note, the US Customs and Border Patrol said that this particular hardware will not be subject to the extra costs, but the same cannot be said for consoles like the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.

Smartphones are also exempt from the tariffs, which will no doubt be pleasing news to the readers of our sibling title, PocketGamer.biz.

All this being said, the situation is changing so much and so quickly by the time you're reading this story, the odds of it still being accurate are, like, really slim. So there's that.

The Trump administration has put a blanket 10 per cent tariff on all goods from outside the US, though China could be subject to a much higher 125 per cent levy, though this has been paused for 90 days. Good thing that a lot of consumer goods, in particular electronics, aren't manufactured in that part of the world! Irregardless, there's still a 20 per cent tariff on Chinese goods coming to the US that was introduced earlier in 2025.
