Minecraft movie has made over $550m so far

A Minecraft Movie has brought in over $550 million at the box office.

That's according to Deadline, which reports that the flick has made $281 million domestically from the United States market, in addition to the $269.6 million it has raked in from abroad.

All of this is despite the film launching to rather middling reviews, though it should be pointed out that kids do love the film, albeit largely because a load of them are going to see the film to trash cinemas during its Chicken Jockey meme scene.

This is a decent jump over the $313 million that the Minecraft film made during its first weekend in the wild. The game launched on April 4th.

“When we make films, we all hope they will connect with the culture,” said the chair of Legendary Entertainment, Mary Parent, after the movie's opening weekend

“But when they do, they take on a life of their own. It’s like lighting dynamite.”
