Long-running simulation title Dwarf Fortress has surpassed over one million sales on Steam.
That's according to developer Bay 12, which posted on the platform that it had hit this milestone 26 months after its initial release. Dwarf Fortress launched on Steam in December 2022, though development started 16 years earlier in 2006 by brother team Zach and Tarn Adams.
Within a month of its release on Steam, Dwarf Fortress had sold over 500,000 copies before surpassing 600,000 in February 2023.
"This number represents countless dwarves, trials and tribulations from your generated worlds," Bay 12 wrote.
"Dwarf Fortress wouldn’t be the game it is today without the stories you bring to life in these worlds. So thank you from the entire team for supporting us throughout the years. If you haven’t already, consider sharing your story in a Steam review."
The game's publisher for Steam and Itch.io Kitfox added over on BlueSky: " Each copy brings countless dwarves, fortresses, and unique worlds to life. Thank you to everyone who’s supported us!"
