Data privacy firm files complaint against Ubisoft

Privacy firm NOYB – European Center for Digital Right has accused Ubisoft of violating GDPR rules.

As spotted by Eurogamer, the organisation is representing a complainant that says that 2016's Far Cry Primal collected a lot of information about users. NOYB – None of Your Business – claims that within ten minutes of booting up the game, users connected to external servers a massive 150 times, including to the likes of Google, Amazon and Datadog.

Part of the complaint is also the requirement to be connected to the internet, despite it being a single-player experience with no online components. Ubisoft claims that an internet connection is required to verify that the user actually owns the game.

NOYB says that there is no explanation given as to why data is being sent between the user PC and external servers, including Google.

PCGamesInsider.biz has reached out to Ubisoft for comment.
